Due ragazze ed il movimento che vuole salvare il pianeta. A cosa siamo disposti a rinunciare in nome di un ideale?
SINOSSI
Carlotta e Alis sono due attiviste, esponenti del nucleo italiano di “Ultima Generazione”, un movimento ambientalista internazionale che mette in campo azioni d’impatto per denunciare la crisi climatica. Le due ragazze non riescono più a vivere una quotidianità normale ritenendo che mancano pochi anni per fare qualcosa di concreto per il loro futuro. Per questo sono disposte a lasciare il lavoro e gli affetti, ma anche a rinunciare a qualcosa di più prezioso: la libertà.
Quindi si incatenano bloccando le strade di Roma, versano del liquido nero nella fontana di Trevi, spargono farina sulle opere d’arte a Milano e lanciano vernice arancione sui muri della stazione di Torino. Ma ne vale davvero la pena? Dopo anni di attivismo si stanno rendendo conto che la rivoluzione arriva. Intanto stanno per essere processate in tribunale, multate per migliaia di euro e con il rischio di finire in carcere per anni.
Martina, la regista, vive nella stessa casa di Carlotta e Alis e insieme parlano spesso delle loro paure. Per lei è difficile non intervenire mentre le filma, quando le vede insultate e percosse o quando la polizia le trascina via in modo violento. Ma ora comincia a chiedersi: fino a dove sono disposte a rischiare? Da un po’ di tempo non se la sentono più di mettere in pericolo il proprio corpo, di essere multate, di essere tacciate di terrorismo in televisione. Con Martina cominciano a mettere in dubbio quello che fanno e insieme riflettono su come possono costruire un mondo diverso. Forse mettendo fine al movimento.
SYNOPSIS
Carlotta and Alis are two activists, members of the Italian branch of “Ultima Generazione,” an international environmental movement that carries out impactful actions to draw attention to the climate crisis. The two young women can no longer live a normal daily life, convinced that there are only a few years left to take meaningful action for their future. For this reason, they are willing to leave their jobs and loved ones behind, as well as give up something even more precious: their freedom.
They chain themselves to block the streets of Rome, pour black liquid into the Trevi Fountain, scatter flour on artworks in Milan, and throw orange paint on the walls of the train station in Turin. But is it really worth it? After years of activism, they are beginning to realize that the revolution is coming. In the meantime, they are facing trial in court, fines amounting to thousands of euros, and the risk of spending years in prison.
Martina, the filmmaker, lives in the same house as Carlotta and Alis, and they often talk about their fears together. For her, it is hard not to intervene while filming them—when she sees them being insulted and beaten or when the police drag them away violently. But now she is beginning to wonder: how far are they willing to go? Lately, they no longer feel up to putting their bodies at risk, being fined, or being labeled as terrorists on television. Together with Martina, they begin to question their actions and reflect on how they can build a different world—perhaps by putting an end to the movement.
